2025 Foundation Report

One of the oldest law firm-affiliated charitable foundations in the United States, established in 1986, The Morrison & Foerster Foundation (“MoFo Foundation” or “Foundation”) has contributed more than $90 million to nonprofit organizations advancing social welfare and addressing systemic inequities. Our funding supports programs focused on legal aid, civil rights, and equitable access to education, healthcare, housing, and the arts.

In 2025, the MoFo Foundation contributed over $6.14 million in charitable giving. The majority of this support was distributed through our Local Community Grants Program, which empowers each Morrison Foerster office to invest in organizations serving their local communities. In addition, the firm’s separate charitable programs in London and Berlin contributed approximately $280,519, bringing total global giving to more than $6.4 million.

Across every region, our grantee partners share a common goal: expanding opportunities and strengthening communities. Whether supporting a child’s education, providing legal protection, or meeting urgent humanitarian needs, these organizations bring the MoFo Foundation’s mission to life every day.

At The Morrison & Foerster Foundation, we see hope every day through the work of the nonprofit organizations with whom we partner. In 2025, we deepened our commitment to supporting organizations delivering essential services to those most in need. From legal aid for immigrants and educational opportunities for underserved youth, to food security, healthcare access, disaster relief, and the arts, our grantees are addressing urgent needs while building stronger, more equitable communities.

This year also underscored the power of collective action. Morrison Foerster personnel joined the MoFo Foundation in responding to critical moments—from wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles to supporting international aid initiatives and addressing food insecurity locally.

I continue to be inspired by the dedication and leadership of our nonprofit partners. Their work brings hope to communities around the world and drives meaningful, lasting change.

The MoFo Foundation enables Morrison Foerster personnel to support nonprofit organizations serving the communities where they live and work. Guided by our commitment to justice in all its forms, we prioritize organizations that:

Serve disadvantaged children and youth
Expand access to education, housing, and healthcare
Combat discrimination and advance civil rights
Provide free legal services to those in need

Locally Responsive

We support these initiatives primarily through our Local Community Grants Program, following recommendations by Morrison Foerster lawyers and business professionals who personally support the organizations through their own volunteer work or individual contributions. We do not accept unsolicited proposals.

Programs

Resilience, Compassion, and Action –
Coming Together to Support One Another

In 2025, the Foundation provided more than $165,000 in funding for disaster relief and urgent humanitarian needs. These contributions supported communities affected by the Los Angeles wildfires, disruptions in international aid, and growing food insecurity across
the United States.

LA Wildfire Relief

The Foundation donated $85,000 combined to Habitat for Humanity of LA, California Fire Foundation, Direct Aid, Latino Community Foundation, California Community Foundation, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, and Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County. In addition, MoFo personnel donated over $35,000 in individual contributions, for a combined impact of over $120,000.

International Aid

The Foundation provided $45,000 combined to the Foreign Aid Bridge Fund, Founder’s Pledge Rapid Response Fund, and the World Health Organization Foundation. In addition, MoFo personnel donated $20,000 to various international aid organizations, for a combined impact of $65,000 in contributions towards lifesaving international aid programs.

Access to justice is fundamental to a fair and equitable society. In 2025, the MoFo Foundation donated over $2 million to organizations dedicated to protecting civil rights, advancing equity, and ensuring legal representation for those who might otherwise go without.

Partners for Justice
For many individuals navigating the criminal legal system, the challenges extend far beyond the courtroom.
Partners for Justice addresses this reality by embedding trained client advocates within public defense teams to support individuals holistically.

In 2025, its advocates worked alongside attorneys to help clients secure stable housing, access employment opportunities, and connect with essential social services. By addressing the root causes that often lead to legal system involvement, Partners for Justice not only improves individual outcomes but also contributes to a more equitable and effective justice system.

The MoFo Foundation contributed over $700,000 in 2025 to fellowship and scholarship programs benefiting children and youth and encouraging public service and diversity inclusivity in higher education and the legal profession.

Equal Justice Works, Washington, D.C.

Through Equal Justice Works, we have sponsored promising new lawyers pursuing public interest legal careers at nonprofit organizations in U.S. regions where Morrison Foerster has offices. Nearly all of our fellows have focused their two-year projects on improving the lives of disadvantaged youth and families, especially those experiencing discrimination and educational inequality.

Leah is establishing the first administrative appellate practice in New York to challenge abuses of agency discretion that deny youth their rights provided within the New York City child welfare system.

Elder Law and
Disability Rights Center

Rebecca advocates for low-income families in Southern California by proactively utilizing limited conservatorships and end-of-life planning documents to ensure that seniors and adults with developmental disabilities receive access to necessary medical care.

Rachel Bogle

Greater Boston Legal Services

Rachel is working to expand access to employment-related benefits and services for limited English proficient (LEP) workers in the Greater Boston Area, where residents speak over 138 languages and nearly one in six has limited English proficiency.

Megan Wilhelm

Public Advocates Incorporated

Through legal education and representation, policy advocacy, and community outreach, Megan is increasing access to heat mitigating resources in low-income communities across the San Francisco Bay Area and Central Valley.

Terraciano Scholarships

The MoFo Foundation offers renewable annual scholarships of up to $12,000 per student for the undergraduate education of children of Morrison Foerster staff membersbusiness professionals through the Joseph E. Terraciano Scholarship Program. This program honors the memory of Joe Terraciano, an exceptional lawyer, who exhibited intelligence, leadership, the highest ethical standards, a love of diversityinclusivity, and respect for those around him, and a commitment to excellence in all that he did at MoFo. Our 2025 annual Terraciano Scholarships totaled $156,350.

SungateKids (Colorado)
For children who have experienced abuse, the path to healing can be overwhelming and uncertain. SungateKids helps make that path safer and more supportive. As a child advocacy center, SungateKids brings together law enforcement, medical professionals, and counselors in one child-friendly location—so young survivors only have to tell their story once.

In 2025, SungateKids continued to provide critical forensic interviews, medical evaluations, and trauma-informed therapy to hundreds of children and their families. By reducing the number of times a child must relive their experience and ensuring access to compassionate care, the organization not only supports healing but also strengthens the pursuit of justice.

Access to food, safe housing, and basic necessities is foundational to individual and community well-being. In 2025, the Foundation contributed over $644,000 to organizations addressing these essential needs.

Central Texas Food Bank
As food insecurity continues to affect families across the country, the Central Texas Food Bank serves as a vital lifeline for thousands of households. Through an extensive network of partner agencies, mobile distributions, and on-site programs, the organization provides millions of nutritious meals each year.

In 2025, the Food Bank expanded its outreach to rural and underserved communities, ensuring that more families had consistent access to healthy food. Beyond immediate relief, the organization also connects individuals to job training, nutrition education, and long-term support services.

The Foundation contributed more than $443,000 to organizations supporting physical and mental health, recognizing that well-being is essential to thriving communities.

Starlight Children’s Foundation
For children facing serious illness, time in the hospital can be isolating and stressful. Starlight Children’s Foundation works to transform that experience by bringing moments of comfort, play, and connection into healthcare settings.

In 2025, Starlight reached thousands of hospitalized children through programs that provide interactive entertainment, therapeutic play, and family-centered support. Whether through hospital gaming systems, immersive experiences, or comfort-focused initiatives, Starlight's work helps reduce anxiety and improve emotional well-being.

The arts play a powerful role in fostering creativity, innovation, empathy, and connection, particularly for young people. In 2025, the Foundation contributed $221,000 to organizations expanding access to arts education and cultural experiences.

Able ARTS Work
Able ARTS Work believes that creativity should be accessible to everyone. Through inclusive arts programs, the organization serves individuals of all abilities, including those with developmental disabilities, providing opportunities for artistic expression, skill development, and community engagement.

In 2025, participants in Able ARTS Work programs explored visual arts, music, and performance in supportive, adaptive environments designed to meet diverse needs. These experiences not only nurture creativity but also build confidence, communication skills, and a sense of belonging.

Morrison Foerster’s London office has operated a dedicated charitable giving program since 2006. While separate from the MoFo Foundation for legal and tax purposes, it reflects the same commitment to supporting vulnerable populations and strengthening local communities. In 2025, the London program contributed approximately £121,000 (about $162,721).

Maraudes de Bruxelles

Maraudes de Bruxelles conducts outreach to individuals experiencing homelessness, meeting people where they are to provide immediate assistance and build trust. In 2025, their teams delivered food, basic supplies, and critical support services on the streets of Brussels, to help connect individuals to shelter, healthcare, and longer-term resources.

Giving Guidelines

The MoFo Foundation distributes funds at the discretion of its board of directors, which consists of partners from each of the firm's regions.

The MoFo Foundation does not contribute to groups that discriminate on the basis of race, religion, political affiliation, gender identity, or sexual orientation; to fraternal, religious, or political organizations; to programs that serve only a particular religious or political group; or to individuals.

Donations are made to U.S. nonprofit organizations with IRC § 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status whose programs, in the view of the MoFo Foundation's board of directors, are aligned with the MoFo Foundation's focus and can, in the boards opinion, best serve the community's needs.

We do not purchase tickets to charitable fundraising events or make donations for firm-related business development or client-relations reasons.

We also support a scholarship program for the children of Morrison Foerster staff members.

Only funding requests sponsored by Morrison Foerster lawyers and staff are considered.

We prefer to support programs that can benefit greatly from relatively modest donations.
